In 2016, Dr. ir. Leo Lukasse from the Wageningen Biobased Research Facility initiated a research to explore what solution provides the most equal temperatures inside containers.
During the first stage of the research (in climate chambers) OTFLOW proved to be the most favourable solution compared with other 'airflow enhancing' concepts and shapes.
For the second stage Lukasse performed a field test with 6 containers during a shipment of grapes from South Africa to the Netherlands taking 24 days. To monitor the temperatures Lucasse and his team placed 31 thermal readers in each container.
To measure how much effect OTFLOW would have on temperature difference the team installed it in only half of the containers (A, B, C). The other 3 containers (D, E, F) did not have OTFLOW installed.
All the temperature data of the shipment had been converted to colored temperature maps that provide a clear insight of the effect of OTFLOW.
